SPECIFICATIONS FOR SEALCOATING
SCOPE OF WORK:
Cleaning and sealing asphalt pavements with an application of coal tar emulsion sand slurry.
PREPARATION:
Clean entire area with power blowers and brooms. Scrape and broom-up accumulated debris. Wash with water, if necessary. Properly dispose of all dirt and debris. Scrape and clean oil spots. Apply oil spot primer to prevent oil from bleeding through sealer. Prime badly oxidized and/or heavy traffic areas with Polyprime.
MATERIAL:
The sealer is a specially-formulated coal tar emulsion protective coating. The coal tar emulsion is manufactured to meet Federal Specifications RP-355e. The sealer will be mixed with silica sand, latex additive, and water per manufacturer’s specifications. The materials are metered to ensure consistent mix designs. Mixing is done with a full sweep agitator and is mixed continuously during application.
APPLICATION:
Using a stiff nylon broom, all edges will be cut in with extra care taken not to splash curbs, sidewalks, or buildings. Pressure apply a high-quality sealer. The area should be allowed to dry for 24-36 hours before opening to traffic.
